I happened to walk along the central streets of the city on Women's Day moening. I was sorry I did not have my camera with me: you know, the weather on March 8, was rainy, slushy and grey this year. I thought there would be nothing to take pictures of, but then I felt sorry. It was so toudhing to watch how men pick out flowers at florists' poutlets and carry the boukets along the gloomy streets. I could hardly see women in the streets; only men. Many men were just carrying some flowers (either boukets or plants in bases, both are regarded as good and popular gifts to make on this day). Other men would also have bags with food, fruits and cakes - a good sign telling that a celebration is going to take place at their home later the samr day.
This is always a busy day for majority of men in Ukraine, and there is no difference whether you are married or not. If not, your women friends and your office co-workers will anticipate to receive some little gifts from you anyway.
My husband and I decided to have a quiet celebration this year. We did not invite any friends, but we acquired some sood movies, prepared a bottle of good Georgian wine, bought lots of tasty food, cooked a great dinner together and spent the evening watching movies and sipping the wine. My husband this Men's Thoughts About Women's Day.
I happened to ask a few men friends what they did on March 8 this year and the last year. The responses were very similar. Here is the short list-
1. Lots of cleaning in the morning, then shopping.
2. Cooked coffee for her as soon as she woke up and brought it to her bed.
3. Rushed to flowers market to buy some flowers for my family women.
4. Spent early afternoon visiting parents and relatives to celebrate and give gifts to the women-relatives.
5. Had a big get together with an immense dinner in the evening, in a big company of a few couples of friends.
6. Spent a whole fortune on this celebration.

I read your note with an interest. I also enjoyed watching our local ukrainian men at this day.
In the offices the Women's Day is celebrated in the last work day, on 6th of March. In the morning of this Day I saw a lot of men bringing tulips, ballons, candies or just packed gifts for their female colleagues. And in the evening the women were bringing the same presents to their home.
So, I think the spirit of holiday appears in the air much earlier then 8th of March.
I spent the holiday with my parents. And the same tradition repeats every year, as I used to watching it from my childhood.
In the morning my father brought Spring flowers and favourite parfume for my mom, then he takes all responsibility on kitchen: cooking, washing dishes, and entertain us. In general day was very positive and brough a lot of warmth into our life.
